The star has donated the complete sum of his £25,000 award cash to the MVT, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

The star was awarded the award on October 16 as his new release the album was chosen as the outstanding release of the past year.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages had in his beginning days.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the performances I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," remarked the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

The money helped locations that were confronting possible closure due to issues stemming from water damage, blazes and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in modernizing facilities and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The concept that funds from shows in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to give his honor funds to worthy causes.

In Pulp earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their release the album, frontman Jarvis Cocker announced that the band would contribute their winnings to the charity War Child.

During 2002, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her bounty between a few organizations, like the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked new equipment," she told a publication.

Previously, they contributed their winnings to the community center that nurtured their band, alongside other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners M People gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated vocalist Heather Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the cake. So our winning touched somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had protected a couple of small stages in that region, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in that area and the other in that location were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is supported by the arts council and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
